Elite 2021 Wing Kendall Brown Commits to Baylor

Brown picked Baylor over Kansas, Arizona and others.

Baylor is officially the hottest school in the basketball recruiting world.

Last week the Bears landed elite 2021 prospects Jeremy Sochan, of Orange Academy (Germany) and Langston Love, of Montverde (Fla.) Academy; today they followed up by landing Sunrise Christian (Bel Aire, Kan.) wing Kendall Brown, who picked the Bears over Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Marquette, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio State and Virginia.

Brown’s father, Courtney Brown Sr., had a strong relationship with Baylor’s director of player development Jared Nuness after the two played together in a Pro Am in the 1990s. That opened the door for the relationship with Kendall to blossom.

“We got really close with the staff and were comfortable with Coach (Scott) Drew and everyone,” Courtney said. “We thought it was the best fit because it’s a Christian school and it would be an easy transition from Sunrise, which was also a Christian school. Also, they have a really strong track record of producing pros out of players like Kendall.”

Last season, Brown averaged 14 points, 1.7 steals, 3.5 rebounds and four assists a game at Sunrise Christian.

So what is Scott Drew getting in Brown?

An exceptional athlete who plays above the rim and finishes efficiently as a result. Last season, Brown racked up more than 80 dunks. He’s extremely agile, making him near impossible to keep out of the lane and uses his reach and length to hound the opposition on defense. Brown has a high basketball IQ with the awareness that translates into playmaking. His offensive movement is always with purpose and plays with a tenacious motor on both ends of the floor. He’s the type of player a coach would want to go to war with on the court. He checks off multiple boxes on both ends and charts favorable stats that don’t always show up in the stat sheet.

Though it's early, the addition of Brown gives the Bears the top recruiting class in 2021.
