Elite HS Prospect Kyree Walker to Skip College and Pros to Train for 2021 NBA Draft

Walker was once considered one of the top prospects in the 2020 class.

A week after two elite high school basketball prospects opted to skip college to pursue pro careers with the NBA G League’s professional pathway program, a third has decided to skip college to train for the 2021 NBA draft.

Kyree Walker announced on Monday that he would opting to skip college and a one-year stint at a professional team to train with Chameleon BX and renowned trainer Frank Matrisciano in preparation for the draft.

“I want to give a special shoutout to the coaches who coached me and the coaches that recruited me throughout the years,” Walker said in a video announcement on Twitter. “After exploring many options, I’ve decided that I will forgo college and join the ChamelonBX training team while I get prepared for the 2021 NBA draft.”

As is stands, players must be 19 years old or one year removed from high school to declare for the draft, per league rules.

Walker was considering Memphis, Arkansas, Arizona State, Arizona and Kansas, among others.

Though he sat out his senior season at Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.), Walker was once considered to be one of the top 10–15 players in the class.

The one-time Arizona State commit is a bouncy scoring guard whose shiftiness with the ball enables him to dominate the opposition. His combination of size (6-foot-6), athleticism and skill made him a hot commodity for college coaches around the country.

Last week, SI All-American Player of the Year Jalen Green, a combo guard out of Prolific Prep (Napa, Calif.), and Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) forward Isaiah Todd announced their move to the G League next season.
