Butler Signee Myles Tate Laser Focused on Making History

It’s not that Myles Tate wasn’t excited, it’s just that he’s got bigger plans.
That’s why he was a bit reserved last week when he became Dorman’s (Roebuck, S.C.) all-time leading scorer after dropping 19 points in a win over Spartanburg (S.C.).
Tate is currently sitting at 1,857 career points.
“It was an honor, but I couldn’t really focus on it too much,” Tate said. “I want a state title and that’s all I’m focused on.”
Tate’s laser focus has helped him to lead the Cavaliers to a 29-1 record and a No. 2 overall ranking nationally.
This season, Tate, a Butler signee, is averaging 15 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game.
Tate and the Cavaliers will face Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) Friday for the state championship.
It’s the Cavaliers fourth-straight trip to the state title.
“I’ll probably be able to appreciate being the all-time leading scorer after the season,” Tate said. “But I’ve just got this last thing I have to do first. I feel like this would set us up perfectly to transition over to a national title and then on to Butler.”
Tate leads a five-man class for the Bulldogs, who have managed to reel in blue-collar type players with the potential to develop in to key pieces as their careers progress.
“I feel like our class could be special when it’s all said and done,” Tate said. “All of us are workers and that’s why we came to Butler. That’s the way it is there. We earn it and that’s why I picked them. I want to win a couple more titles before I get there and then win one with them.”
