Top QB Caleb Williams Drops Final Five Schools in 'All on the Line' Blog
Caleb Williams is the top quarterback prospect in the 2021 class with scholarship offers from elite programs coast to coast. He has agreed to give Sports Illustrated exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from his experience as a high profile recruit to his home life and preparation for his senior season. This is 'All on the Line.'
What's Up?
Back for another week, Week 4, and this will be one of the most eventful blogs. We're going to talk about how we're still working out during this pandemic and there's a little surprise at the end.
Starting off, my dad actually walked in and he was super excited, of course, because I'm able to get back to fully working out. My grandparents have an indoor swimming pool that nobody goes in, so I'm gonna be safe in there. We actually have a bunch of other things, the Peloton, a few weights and I'm able to sling it around a little bit. I have a few one-on-one sessions with my coach.
I hope everyone is staying safe, obviously it's very major as you've seen. Everybody is on lock down so stay safe and stay clean.
Here's the little surprise for everybody...
I have the top five schools I'm going to focus heavily on. It will be, in alphabetical order, Clemson University, Louisiana State University, the University of Maryland, Oklahoma University and Penn State University.
Starting off with Maryland, it's the hometown. One of the reasons they're in there is because of what they've brought in. Coach (Mike) Locksley, Coach Scottie Montgomery and obviously it's the hometown school.
Going on to Penn State, you can't really beat 109k fans to go and support you each week in being loud no matter how cold it is up in the mountains. Then Coach (James) Franklin is an awesome dude. He always says light skins stick together [laughing].
To Oklahoma, I mean, kinda speaks for itself. Their history and what Coach (Lincoln) Riley has done these past three years—Baker (Mayfield) to Kyler (Murray) then to Jalen Hurts, then to whoever else is next and then maybe me.
[Related: Williams blogs about multi-day Oklahoma visit, meeting Jalen Hurts and more]
Clemson, jeez, Coach Dabo (Swinney), he's a Christian man. He believes in the man, the higher-up, and that's always good. Look what he's been able to do in the past 10 years with Clemson. They have been a good program for a while but you look at the last five or six years, what he's done, that's unbeatable. Then you go around their coaching staff, their staff is first class.
LSU...if you haven't been to a game—and I can't say some of the things they say—but if you haven't been to a game you need to go to an LSU game. It will give you goosebumps. The stadium rocks, literally. And Coach O (Ed Orgeron), he's a beast. He makes you want to run through a brick wall when he comes in. As a lot of people saw, he comes in and chugs two red bulls. Him walking into a team meeting, doing that, I don't know how it can't fire you up.
So those are the final five schools. It's pretty exciting, I'm very grateful for these five schools, obviously. Also the others that gave me the opportunity to play for them, I'm very, very grateful and humble about that.
But these five schools that I've chosen, they have stood out to me and I feel like they suit me best on and off the football field. School, social and then Saturdays. They will help with my next destination after college, hopefully the NFL.
These five schools, either way, if they offered me or not—I feel like they'd be the best for me. Opportunity-wise, they give me the best chance for whatever comes next. The other schools that have offered me, I'm very thankful and blessed to get the opportunity to go to their school.
For the past couple of months, three to four months, people have noticed that I changed my profile picture. I wasn't really trolling or anything I was just slightly dropping hints of these top five schools that I have decided to cut it down to.
That's the little surprise, too, if you didn't notice.
This has been a long time coming. Since freshman year I was recruited heavily and I'm thankful for that. Not many freshmen get recruited like I did but obviously this is business and I'm not playing around with my schooling and football career. These five schools were the best for me.
With that, make sure you log on each week!
Hopefully everybody is excited for 'Caleb Williams: All on the Line.'
