Peach State Star Recruit Terian Williams Talks Top 12

Defensive back recruit breaks down 12 options from coast to coast

One of the top student-athletes from the greater Atlanta metro area would be Terian Williams. He discussed his list of college choices with SI All-American.

Few football prospects represent the words student-athlete quite like the John's Creek (Ga.) High School star. The soft-spoken cornerback grinds as hard off the gridiron as he does on the gridiron. That attitude has helped him be recruited by schools across the country, quite literally.

From Boston to the greater San Francisco Peninsula, Williams has school options on both coasts and many locations in between. He’s a unique prospect that’s evaluating all of his options from across the United States.

With the released list of schools, Williams included a few thoughts about each of his selections.

Duke: “They came in a little late, but that’s okay. Always liked their athletic facilities. They are really top-notch. I don’t know why nobody talks about them. It’s a great school.”

Texas Tech: “I built a relationship with Derek Jones when he was at Duke. Then he took the job at Texas Tech. We are really close. Really good guy.”

Harvard: “Great academics. It’s one of the top schools (in the country). They have one of the top recruiting staffs. That Harvard degree (is valuable).”

Pittsburgh: “Coach (Archie) Collins, we built a great relationship. I built a relationship with him and I really like the staff.”

Liberty: “All the coaches hit me up. Some may be surprised by Liberty, but they are recruiting me hard.”

Arizona: “It’s a new staff. (The) NFL experience they have can (help) develop me, prepare me, to get to the league. Coach (DeWayne) Walker, he has like 10 years of being an NFL coach.”

Stanford: “The staff is fun. They are all recruiting me. Plus, the degree is for the long run.”

Kansas State: “I absolutely love the Kansas State staff. They have been honest with me from the jump.”

Washington State: “We loved the virtual visit we just did. (I like) the way they teach players how to be men, how to be fathers. It’s not just football.”

Michigan: “First, it’s great academics and athletics. They have both. The defensive back coach, Coach (Maurice) Linguist thinks I have the right tools to make it to the league.”

Penn State: “Coach (James) Franklin. He’s a good man. I know he’s going to be around. He’s a good public figure. I also really like Coach Terry Smith, the defensive backs coach.”

Mississippi State: "That coaching staff, they keep in contact quite a lot. Coach (Tre’) Bell, we have a good relationship. I’ve built a relationship with the staff. Good guys.”

Now that Williams has built a relationship with these 12 coaching staffs, hopefully he will be able to take some official visits in the not so distant future. He certainly has many frequent flyer miles to rack up just to cover the distances between any five of his contenders, as the NCAA allows for five paid official visits.

There’s no clear-cut leader for Williams. He just wants to allow the process to play out and see where he has the best opportunity on and off the gridiron.

In 2020, he helped John's Creek go unbeaten at home as part of a defense that allowed just over 20 points per contest in the loaded 6A classification in Georgia.
