Signing Day Preview: Florida Gators Football
Can Dan Mullen lead Florida to a top five recruiting class?
If that answer is yes, the bulk of the work will have been done by the time the Early Signing Period wraps up this week. The program currently holds 24 verbal commitments headed into what may as well be deemed National Signing Day on Wednesday, but more prospects are expected to be added.
As Zach Goodall of Gator Maven points out in the above video, Florida is not only looking to add prospects to its 2020 roster, but many are currently committed to other programs. A pair in particular, defensive tackle Tim Smith (Alabama) and defensive end Donell Harris (Texas A&M), have each frequented Gainesville since making their initial decisions. If UF pulls off a flip of even one of these top south Florida natives, it would mark the third in a week or so with the program landing Mordecai McDaniel (Tennessee) and Joshua Braun (Georgia) of late.
Maintaining the current verbal commitments is another major element of a top-ranked group, something Mullen and company are expected to accomplish through this week. Among the headlining prospects on that side of the coin include athletic linebacker Derek Wingo, long defensive back Ethan Pouncey and SI All-American defensive lineman Gervon Dexter.
With the SEC East power looking to soon take the next step, SI All-American dips into those storylines and more ahead of what should be a busy 24 hours for the future of Florida football.
