Under Armour Miami Wraps with Record Number of UA Game Invites
COCONUT CREEK, Fla. -- As Billy Tucker wrapped-up thoughts on the Under Armour All-America Camp in south Florida Sunday, he let the crowd know they had never invited as many rising seniors to the UA All-America Game as they were about to.
Five prospects picked up the good news after a competitive camp, especially in the trenches, spanning multiple recruiting classes.
SI All-American runs down its own top performers after the windy day.
OL Ryan Rodriguez - If there was a stat for winning percentage during the vast one-on-one portion of the camp, the Miami (Fla.) Columbus standout would be listed first -- so we will. An interior projection despite experience at left tackle for the state champions, Rodriguez has a strong combination of technique and quickness inside. As seen in the above video, his punch kept defenders at bay and he was strong to anchor thereafter, even against those out-weighing him by a wide margin. Miami just hosted Rodriguez, the only lineman to slow the next guy on this list, while Louisville and Wake Forest will soon do the same.
DL Leonard Taylor - Whether talking the look test, frame, athleticism or physical dominance, the Miami (Fla.) Palmetto star was hard to miss. He won with speed, power, technique and everything in between while facing the who's who list of offensive line prospects along the way. Taylor, who isn't planning on a decision until December, is considering a bevy of SEC programs including the in-state Florida Gators.
DL Shemar Stewart (Class of 2022) - An Opa Locka (Fla.) Pace standout pass rusher and basketball player, the rising junior was easily the most impressive in his class among those on hand. Stewart is the prototype defensive end, with tackle ability if needed, in this day and age of pass-first football. An onlooker, who coached against him in 2019, simply called him a "freak of nature." It's way too early to dive into the 2022 class from an All-American perspective but Stewart is impressive enough to drive that conversation. LSU and Georgia are two programs he said are on his mind more these days although he is playing patient with recruiting overall.
OL Marcus Tate - The Clemson verbal commitment out of Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) University School had perhaps his best camp effort as a prospect Sunday. Trimmed down and agile enough to beat Stewart, who is nearly 100 pounds lighter, in the Big Man Challenge at the end of the event -- Tate flashed dominance. Working well at both tackle and guard, he did it with his massive frame, new-found agility and a patience that even a defensive backs coach could appreciate.
OL Laurence Seymore - The strong offensive line group continues with the Miami commitment out of local Miami (Fla.) Central High School. Seymore isn't the prototypical tackle by build but he is incredibly strong at the point of attack and showed the ability to extend beyond his frame on Sunday. The rising senior plays with a wide base and even posted up a defender with one hand at the tail-end of his performance, which netted him the UA game invite.
WR Jacolby George - The Plantation (Fla.) wideout probably had the catch of the day, of the one-handed variety, but his movement skills impress just as much. George is incredibly smooth in and out of his breaks and his ability to set up defenders early in the route enables for double-moves and easy separation down the field.
WR Quincy Skinner - The slender track standout, who clocked 10.8 seconds in the 100-meter dash recently, had one of the more consistent days among the wide receivers. What he did better than most, though, was make contested catches. Skinner, who is considering LSU, Miami, Kentucky and others, made head-turning catches while diving, along the sidelines and with defenders draped all over him. He looks to be next up among great wideouts at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas.
DE Dallas Thomas - The hybrid edge prospect both looked the part, played the part and was among the more relentless types on the day. Winning the Big Man Challenge after the competition portion of the day, his first step separates him from most prospects. Thomas, who sports offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia and many others, is now at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas.
DB Kevin Knowles - The Hollywood (Fla.) McArthur cornerback is built with great length and speed, but showed such strong feel for the football in flight Sunday. Invited to the UA All-America Game for his efforts, Knowles closed on the ball well and took smart risks this time out. He high-pointed like a safety with good range too.
DB Kamari Wilson (2022) - Florida, Georgia and Auburn are already in on the rising junior and it didn't take long to see why. With great size already to his name, Wilson looked more like a big corner than projected safety on Sunday. He anticipated cuts and jumped routes while remaining physical at the point.
LB Jaydon Hood - The Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker is a put-together prospect but was able to compete in coverage as well as any prospect at the second level, leading to his invitation to the UA All-America Game. Hood is strong laterally and has a feel for making plays on the ball and when to take risks, like sliding underneath the target, which he did well Sunday. More than 20 programs have offered the rising senior.
WR Joseph Kennerly (2022)- Another polished wideout coming through Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High School, the natural slot type has some traits one would expect given his stature. He is quicker than fast with slippery ability both before and after the catch.
WR Jayden Corbett - The Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee prospect made the trip south as a relative unknown but lived deep down the field during one-on-ones. He stands a legit 6-foot-2 with great length, sneaky speed and some of the best hands showcased on Sunday. After the event, SI All-American was surprised to learn he has yet to garner considerable recruiting attention to this point.
