DALLAS — SMU coach Rob Lanier expected to get a Chance on Tuesday, the first day of the basketball signing period. He did just that when 6-7 Carter Cowboys forward Chance Puryear signed with the Mustangs Wednesday afternoon, becoming the first Mustang to ever be signed specifically to compete in ACC basketball.

He is a composite three-star recruit, but ESPN lists him as a four star.  Puryear had a dozen offers, including Mississippi State and Texas A&M in the SEC along with Texas Tech from the Big 12. He also had offers from Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Tulsa, Texas-San Antonio, Saint Louis, UT-Arlington and Texas-Rio Grande. According to his social media, things became official Tuesday, although he made no further posts on Wednesday.

The Ponies are off to a 1-0 start on the new season with an 82-63 win over Southwestern Assembly of God on Monday Night. It's going to be a busy week for Lanier and SMU with three games in four days. They also have a commitment from 6-11 power forward Mitchell Holmes from Link Academy in Branson, Mo.

SMU hosts Western Illinois at 6 p.m. They then play Lamar at 7 p.m. tomorrow night and Texas A&M on Tuesday at 7 p.m. You can watch the games on ESPN+ and you can listen in the Dallas area on KLIF 570 a.m. We are giving away two tickets to the game with the Aggies and you can register for two tickets on Twitter below.
