Mark Kingston and South Carolina's Baseball team are looking to bounce back from their first losing season in over two decades in 2023. They added 22 new players to this roster over the offseason, fourteen being high school prospects and eight being transfers. This group has brought a fresh dose of optimism to the fanbase, with many believing that this team might not be deep enough just to make it back to the NCAA Regionals. Still, it might have the ingredients to make it back to Omaha, something the program hasn't accomplished since its historic run between 2010 and 2012.

If the Gamecocks wish to achieve these lofty goals, however, they'll have to contend with an SEC conferenceΒ laden with teams with the star power to make a deep postseason run. This was further emphasized when the SEC Coaches preseason baseball rankings were released on Thursday, as the league collectively believes the Gamecocks will finish fourth in their division this next season.

In the SEC, being a middle of the pack usually means that you're playing June baseball, but with how fickle the sport can be at certain points, South Carolina would like to finish high enough to where their postseason hopes don't hang in the balance by the end of the conference tournament.
