Series Primer: No. 25 South Carolina Vs. Miami (OH)
Gamecock baseball fans, you have made it. After a long offseason full of intriguing portal additions and some national recognition for their star players, Mark Kingston and South Carolina are set to begin the 2024 season later this afternoon in Founders Park.
The Gamecocks first weekend series will pit them against the Miami (OH) Redhawks, who went 21-35 this past Spring, including a 2-7 mark against Power 5 competition. The group to watch for this Redhawks team is their batting lineup, which hit 79 home runs in 2023 and returned 55 of them for this season. Their top batter is Ryland Zaborowski, who slashed .300/.402/.686 in 207 at-bats last season led Miami in homers and runs batted in with 20 and 52, respectively.
On the flip side, the Redhawks return six pitchers who pitched 23 and a third or more innings last year. Only two of those pitchers possessed an ERA of less than 6.26 in 2023: Martin Sosna and Connor Preisel.
