BREAKING: Lamont Paris Named SEC Coach of The Year, Other Gamecocks Named All-SEC
South Carolina's men's basketball team was the most-improved team in the SEC this season and the awards that were given out on Monday reflect that.
It's been a special season for Lamont Paris and South Carolina's men's basketball team, who this past Saturday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs broke the program record for wins in a regular season (25) and tied the single-season record for most SEC road wins (7). The Gamecocks also finished the regular season ranked in at least one of the two major polls for the first time since the 1997-98 season.
With all those team-based accomplishments, almost everyone in the Palmetto State could see a plethora of individual awards were coming, and the SEC provided that on Monday afternoon, naming Paris the SEC Coach of the Year. In addition, guards Ta'Lon Cooper and Meechie Johnson were named second-team All-SEC selections, and forward Collin Murray-Boyles was named to the All-SEC freshman team.
Paris helped South Carolina improve their year-over-year season win total by 14 games this winter, the largest improvement in program history. Meechie Johnson is currently on pace for a new career-best in average points per game (14.4), with Cooper just 0.1 average points away from tying his own career-best mark.
