Dawn Staley picks up her first basketball transfer in Te-Hina Paopao.
Dawn Staley adds much-needed shooting help with this pick-up of point guard Te-Hina, who is the No. 7 transfer recruit in the ESPN Rankings and a former five-star recruit out of Oceanside, CA, in the 2020 class. She was a 2020 McDonald's All-American and played in the Jordan Brand Classic.
Te-Hina averaged 13.1 PPG, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists for the Ducks and was an All-Pac 12 honorable mention after this past year.
Paopao shot a career-high 44% this past year, as well as 42.4% from three-point range, which put her 14th in the country for 3-point percentage.
something that South Carolina has been looking to add since last season, when the Gamecocks went 36-1 with their only loss coming to Iowa in the final four in a close game that ended with Iowa just hitting a couple more three-pointers than the Gamecocks could to put them over the top.
The gamecocks, after a heartbreaking finish, will look to take care of business this next season, and Te-Hina Paopao should be a key piece in helping the gamecocks with another strong season and tournament, along with this freshman class featuring five-star point guard Milaysia Fulwiley from Columbia, SC, five-star forward Chloe Kitts from Oviedo, FL, who early enrolled in the middle of the year, along with four-star guard Tessssssa Johnson from Albertville, MN, and four-star wing Sahnya Jah from Montverde, FL.
The Gamecocks will look to get some revenge next season.
