Report: NBA Scouts Opinions On GG Jackson Vary After Recent Social Media Rant
When GG Jackson decided to not only commit to the South Carolina Gamecocks back in July but also reclassify and enroll a year earlier than originally planned, many people were interested to see how this was all going to work. There's an obvious argument to be made that the move has worked out well for both parties, as South Carolina's men's basketball program had gotten national publicity for landing their highest-rated recruit in program history, while Jackson has gotten an earlier idea of what areas he needs to work and improve upon.
This segues perfectly into the flip side of the coin regarding how this move has potentially hurt both programs, with Jackson's ability to persevere through rough performances against more physically mature college players being tested on multiple occasions this season. Until recently, no one thought this move could significantly hurt. South Carolina. That is until GG Jackson went on a rant on Instagram Live following their loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks this past Saturday, where he questioned the coaching staff's game plan and his supposed lack of usage in crunch time.
This kind of rant can plant doubt in the minds of national pundits and, more importantly, prospective recruits. In terms of Jackson's future value, the rant has already left an impression on the minds of NBA scouts, who, according to an article written by 247sports National College Basketball Writer Travis Branham, are having growing questions about his maturity.
"Some of that is him being 18-years old and not having the proper support around him to tell him what is and isn't allowed," the scout told Branham. "Some of it is also maturity. At the end of the day the kid is 18 years old and won't turn 19 until December and that is always a convenient excuse for him but you also are afraid if he is more immature than a typical 18-year old kid is."
While Jackson responded well to his subsequent punishment that stemmed from his remarks this past weekend, it's clear that Jackson has to treat his college basketball career as an everlasting job interview to prevent his stock from falling even more.
