Fans Reminded Of Rebuilding Process Amidst Colorado State Loss
South Carolina was riding an early season wave of momentum heading into the Charleston Classic, and they hoped to continue that against Colorada State.
The team saw an automatic bump in overall fan support due to the fight shown by the Gamecocks and, of course, the big win over the arch-rival Tigers, which will never hurt a first-year coaching staff.
South Carolina got their first big slice of humble pie on Thursday night. Colorado State controlled the tempo from tipoff. The Rams consistently executed in crucial situations, mounting runs toward the end of both halves.
South Carolina doesn't have many shot creators, meaning their shot quality varies nightly. Some nights they appear unstoppable, but on others, they struggle to get an open look.
Couple that with their sixteen turnovers, and they didn't leave much room for error. It's almost impossible to keep things close when you shoot poorly and turn the basketball over.
The frontcourt will want to clean this game from their memory. They gave up leverage on drives to the basket, letting the ballhandler capture the edge before ducking inside.
Forward Hayden Brown missed a lot of the game with early foul trouble. While he may not have made the difference, his presence has been calming for this team and certainly could have helped the offensive approach.
The Gamecocks were outclassed in multiple aspects Thursday and must regroup quickly, as they still have two more games to play in the Charleston Classic over the coming weekend.
