Former Gamecock Chris Silva Looking NBA Ready
There's been a lot of talk surrounding whether NBA G-leaguers or Euro players are better equipped for the NBA, but at this point, it's still speculation. As of late, GG Jackson is the most recent Gamecock to be drafted to the NBA; however, the South Carolina Men's basketball program currently has two players on an NBA roster in Jackson and AJ Lawson. Former Gamecock Chris Silva may soon be added to the list.
Just five games into the NBA G-League season, Chris is already proving that he's deserving of a 10-day NBA contract, as he's currently averaging a double-double, 23.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, which also makes him the leading scorer for the 1st place Eastern Conference College Park Sky Hawks.
Silva received a 10-day contract last season on January 31, 2023, with the Dallas Mavericks but was waived four days later to make room for veteran guard Justin Holiday. Last season, Silva averaged 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds in the NBA's developmental league.
It'll be interesting to see if Silva can earn a contract with a big-league club if he continues to be a consistent force in the G-League. Covering him last season in College Park, I genuinely believe Silva can be a valuable asset, as he's a willing defender with a high motor. Oh by the way, he can bring the ball up the court if need be to keep pressure on transition defenses, a bonus for big men in today's game.
