Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks traveled for their first conference game to face off against the Florida Gators. South Carolina wanted to continue their undefeated streak and earn their first conference win behind their leaders Kamilla Cardoso and Raven Johnson. With help from Te-Hina Paopao, the Gamecocks secured the victory in blow out fashion over the Gators 89-66.

The first half was highlighted by the stellar play from Raven Johnson and Te-Hina Paopao, who combined for 24 of the team's 48 points, making 9 of their 14 combined shots. With their offense and abilities to spread the ball around with six assists, the Gamecocks got an early lead. While they could hold onto it and maintain a double-digit lead through the first half, towards the end, they were a bit Sloopy, ending the half with eight turnovers before a three at the end of the half from Bree Hall, ending a 3-minute drought.

To start the second half, the Gamecocks wasted no time extending their lead, going on a 15-2 run heading into the first media timeout, with five players recording points in that stretch. South Carolina was able to continue to work and build their lead, going up 27 points to end the third quarter. However, turnovers continued to be an issue, with 6 in the quarter alone. Raven Johson and the Gamecocks would finish strong, limiting their turnovers in the final quarter and shooting nearly 50% for the game.

South Carolina improved their record to 13-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play and has some good and bad to take away from the conference opener for head coach Dawn Staley. Gamecocks will head home for the first time in nearly a month and host Mississippi State this Sunday, looking to remain undefeated.
