The USC women’s team continues to roll as they pulled out the 78-71 win over Dawn Staley’s former team the Temple Owls.
USC improves to 9-1 on the season overall and remains No. 6 in the AP Poll.
Seniors Tyasha Harris and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan did most of their damage in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
Harris scored 12 of her season-high 21 points during that period, while Herbert Harrigan dropped nine of her 15.
USC returns home on Dec. 15 to host Purdue.
The men’s team suffered a 76-56 loss to Houston on Sunday and fell to 6-4 on the season overall.
Maik Kotsar led the Gamecocks in scoring with 12 points, followed by A.J. Lawson with 10.
It was a game where USC found themselves down 14-7 early in the first half and fought back to cut it to two, but Houston pulled away with an 8-0 run and never looked back.
After the game, Martin told Gamecock Central that his team has to mature and sustain runs if they hope to make it this season.
Asha win 30 a year when you don’t have the disposition to sustain the effort and disciplined it takes to beat these kinds of teams,” Martin said. “We were not as disciplined as we need to be, and that’s my job. Man to man, we’re not as tough as we need to be. That’s players taking ownership individually what they need to be better at.”
The Gamecocks are off until Dec. 15 when they hit the road to take on rival Clemson.
