Gamecocks' Running Back Depth Impacted By Injuries

South Carolina's Football program has been impacted by the injury bug this season, and it's now permeating to the running back room.

It was another hard day for the Gamecocks football program as Juju McDowell left the game with an injury, and Shane Beamer later confirmed that the third-year running back would be out for the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. After having Dakereon Joyner leave last weekend's game against Jacksonville State with an ankle injury, this is the last thing the Gamecocks needed heading into a pivotal two-game stretch against Kentucky and Clemson.

Regarding Joyner's status for South Carolina's week twelve matchup with the Wildcats, Shane Beamer said that, in his mind, Joyner is doubtful for next weekend. With both of these developments at that specific spot, South Carolina is now down to only two scholarship running backs: Mario Anderson and freshman running back Djay Braswell. Anderson, however, believes that the room can make up for the absence of Juju and DK.

"For a guy like Djay Braswell to come in and do his thing, he's matured a lot as the year went on, and the guys like [Bradley] Dunn and DJ Twitty, like we got complete faith in everyone in the running back room, and we all play the game for each other. So, prayers up for Juju and DK. We going to finish [this] thing for them boys."

This will be a concerning factor for this team heading into the game versus Kentucky, and we will need to keep a close eye on who could step up in that third-string running back roll.
