Report: Greg Sankey "Leaning" Towards Conference Remodel

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is reportedly considering removing divisions within the conference, which has lasting implications for South Carolina and others

According to Marc Ryan of CBS Sports, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and company are considering removing divisions in the league. This is a new development but not necessarily unexpected.

The SEC has been college football's superpower for as long as many can remember. They routinely pump out elite-level teams, and even bottom feeders would compete well in other conferences.

They intend to add Texas and Oklahoma in the coming years, giving the SEC even more historical relevance. They are hoping to create more competitive atmospheres, as they are trending toward disbanding the divisions.

South Carolina currently resides in the SEC East, which features the likes of Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. By creating an entire superconference, the Gamecocks would face schools like Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss more frequently.

National powers have been afraid of SEC movement for some time. They run college football in every metric, and Sankey may be the most powerful man in collegiate athletics.

The conference has made strides in basketball over the years and has most elite baseball programs. They continue to put out the best product, and their compensation will reflect that moving forward.
