One of the most challenging things about being a major college football coach is rallying everyone else together when morale is low. While South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer might not be at the point where he's having to "rally" his football team, his head coaching ability is about to be tested to a great degree over the next few weeks.

After losing to Tennessee 41-20 on Saturday, the Gamecocks head into their bye week likely feeling frustrated not just with what happened in Knoxville but likely with how each of their three losses to this point have unfolded, something Beamer alluded to during his Sunday night teleconference call with the media.

"Nobody's happy about being 2-3, but it's one of those [things] where every single game, we had an opportunity to win the game in the fourth quarter, and you can say, 'Well, you know it was a two-score game' and things like that, but when we kick the field goal [on Saturday] night for example to make it a two-score game with nine minutes left, you feel good about your opportunity to at least have a chance to tie this thing and win it."

The Tennessee game wasn't the first one where South Carolina had a chance to make things interesting late in the ball game, as Shane went into his memory bank and back to week one against the Tar Heels.

"Going all the way back to the first game against UNC, it's a two-score, [and] we're inside the 20-yard line or whatever it was three times and got no points out of it - We've had opportunities in the fourth quarter to swing [the game] in our favor, and we weren't able to get it done," Beamer lamented.

In terms of his message to the team over the next couple of weeks, the Gamecocks head man conveyed that the team has to understand the importance of constant focus and learning from mistakes.

"[It's also about] making sure that they understand that winning is hard, and there needs to be great detail and discipline in everything that we're doing, and when you don't have it, you get exposed when you play good teams away from home, which our three losses have been, and you learn from it and try to get better and continue to develop your personnel, and correct the things that are hurtin' ya, and continue to build on the things that are helpin' ya."
