The Halftime Report: South Carolina @ No. 20 Missouri
The South Carolina Gamecocks already have a small margin for error at certain positions and in certain situations, and today, that margin has been crushed by underwhelming play on both sides of the ball, as Shane Beamer's squad finds themselves down 24-3 at the break.
On the first drive of the game, the defense had a great start forcing a three-and-out and getting some pressure on Brady Cook on some dropback passing plays. On the Gamecocks first offensive drive, they were able to string together couple of first downs, but a sack in plus territory killed the drive, and Mitch Jeter missed a 51-yard field goal against the wind and wide right.
On the next defensive drive, the Gamecocks gave up passing plays of 9 and 13 yards, and then a 42-yard touchdown to Luther Burden, who was double covered and still took the top off the secondary for a touchdown. On the following offensive drive, an illegal formation penalty set them back, then pressure was applied on first and third down, leading to another sack and a punt for South Carolina.
I would say more, but I believe you all get the picture. The same mistakes keep plaguing this football team on both sides of the ball: the offense isn't able to allow Spencer Rattler to get into a rhythm and the defense can't stop shooting themselves in the foot at seemingly the worst possible times. Should these problems continue to persist, this will be one of the worst losses of the Shane Beamer era to date.
