The South Carolina Gamecocks are entering their fourth season under head coach Shane Beamer. Following a promising (8-5) season in year two, the Gamecocks were a saddened (5-7) a year ago. Now, the Gamecocks enter the season with promising expectations behind the future of new starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

ESPN recently released their Football Power Index which is a model that attempts to rank the college football teams in order based on neutral site and common opponent metrics. The model ranked South Carolina as the nation's 33rd ranked football program, however, it's their wins and loss projections that might have some Gamecocks fans perplexed.

ESPN's FPI model predicts South Carolina to go exactly (6-6) during this year's schedule, making them bowl eligble, but not exactly exceeding expectations.

South Carolina 2024 Schedule

  • Old Dominion
  • @ Kentucky
  • LSU
  • Akron
  • Ole Miss
  • @Alabama
  • @Oklahoma
  • Texas A&M
  • @Vanderbilt
  • Mizzou
  • Wofford
  • @ Clemson

Sure, there's only four true games on the schedule this season and you don't get Georgia which is ideal, but if there is a tougher three-week stretch in college football than games against Ole Miss, @ Alabama, and @ Oklahoma, then I'd love to see it. Old Dominion, Akron, and Wofford appear to be three "easy wins," meaning that the Football Power Index projects South Carolina to go (3-6) in their 9 contests against Power4 opponents.
