REPORT: South Carolina ST Coordinator Pete Lembo Interviewed For Buffalo HC Vacancy
One of the biggest changes in South Carolina's football program since Shane Beamer's arrival in December of 2020 has been their increased emphasis on special teams. Beamer has proritized that part of the game to such a degree, that he hired a former head coach in Pete Lembo to be solely responsible for those units, something rarely seen in major college football.
The move has paid off under Lembo's watch, with South Carolina possessing the No. 18 and No. 1 special team units in the country in 2021 and 2022 respectively, leading to Pete being named a Broyles Award semifinalist and the Special Teams Coach of the Year by Phil Steele two Falls ago. Lembo's football mind and experience is widely respected by his peers, so it comes as a surprise to no one that 247Sports' Brad Crawford reported on Saturday that the Long Island native has interviewed for the head coaching position at Buffalo (college).
Lembo has previous experience in the Mid-American conference, serving as the head coach at Ball State from 2011-2015.
