In the highly anticipated 2025 recruiting cycle, one of the spotlights is on four-star defensive back Jontae Gilbert, who hails from Atlanta. As of now, Gilbert remains uncommitted, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. 

South Carolina has emerged as a key contender for Gilbert's talents, being considered the team to beat at one point. Despite a recent shift in crystal ball predictions favoring Clemson, the Gamecocks maintain a strong position in his recruitment, as records show that South Carolina has hosted Gilbert on multiple visits, building their connection with the talented prospect.

Both sides will look to continue building that relationship when Jontae stops by for a pivotal visit on January 13th, he recently revealed to Gamecock Digest. While Clemson may have gained traction as a new contender and supposed leader, South Carolina, Southern California, and Georgia Tech remain heavily in the mix for this coveted player.

Under the guidance of defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, the Gamecocks' coaching staff has played a crucial role in keeping Gilbert's interest alive. Gray, renowned as one of the nation's top DB coaches, has established a reputation for developing young talent. In a previous interview with Digest, Gilbert mentioned feeling exceptionally comfortable with Gray, citing the coach's impressive track record.

Gray's impact on the Gamecocks' defense is evident in the development of four All-Americans at the defensive back position within three years. Drawing on his extensive experience and successful player development, including notable names like Kam Chancellor during his days at Virginia Tech, Gray has positioned South Carolina as an appealing destination for rising defensive talents like Jontae Gilbert.
