The Spring transfer portal window officially opened this morning for Division One FBS programs, allowing schools the opportunity to add more depth to their roster or find some starting-caliber players that could elevate their team this coming Fall. Coming off a 5-7 campaign that saw former star offensive playmakers Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette walk out the door, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks were heavily active in the December portal window, adding 19 players to their roster, including former First-team All-SEC running back Raheim "Rocket" Sanders and former Auburn starting quarterback Robby Ashford. When asked during his Tuesday press conference if the staff could be looking to add even more players, Beamer started with more of a cookie-cutter type response but did hint at two positions currently missing the mark regarding scholarship numbers.

"I think with the portal being open, you have to look at how you can make your team better, and that's my job as the head coach," Shane stated. "We have a target number of guys that we want to have on scholarship [at every position] and some of those positions, we're at that number. Other positions we're not. Offensive line, right now, based on the target number of guys that we would like to have on scholarship, we're a couple under; [same with] wide receiver right now. We're a couple under. There's some positions that we might be over, but certainly from a depth standpoint being able to practice, have your full arsenal, receiver, and offensive line are two positions -- not that I'm saying we need to get better, but just from a depth standpoint, being able to practice, have a two-deep, guys on scholarship, those are positions that just we're not where we want to be as far as the minimum number of guys that we have on scholarship. Does it mean that we're, you know, in trouble if we don't add people there? No, but those would be a couple of spots that we're looking at just from a depth standpoint for sure."

Currently, the Gamecocks have 15 scholarship offensive linemen, enough for three whole units, while the wide receiver core has 11 scholarship players.
