A familiar face is back on South Carolina's football staff this Spring after Shawn Elliott was hired back in mid-February as the Gamecocks' new tight end coach. Throughout his career, Elliott has always coached along the lines of scrimmage, and while instructing tight ends is a new role for him, it's not the only title he possesses, as he's also Carolina's run-game coordinator. It can be confusing for some trying to figure out what that role exactly entails, so The Post & Courier's David Cloninger asked Shawn during his media availability on Thursday afternoon about how much he's involved with the o-line, a position he's coached almost his entire career, and how involved he is in game-planning alongside offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. This is what Elliott had to say:

"My interaction with the offensive line is more through the walkthroughs, and as we put in schemes, it's right there. I'm here to just kind of use my knowledge to tell them how I see this thing works, how I see it working with the tight ends and the offensive line and the [running] backs, and I got to take all those puzzle pieces and kind of put it together so they all understand you know what happens at this point, why we have a kick out block here, why you follow a second puller on a pin-and-pull and just things of that [nature]," Shawn explained. "Specific work as far as in a team segment or individual combo drills with the offensive line, I'm not doing a lot of that. I got to coach these tight ends and make them the best group out there, and that's my number one concern. So, you know, it's a balance, but I do sit in there with Lonnie [Teasley] and Dowell [Loggains], and we bounce things off each other and try to formulate a good plan and get it done."
