The Stanford basketball team was already expected to lose a majority of its key contributors following the 2023-24 season being that they were so veteran-heavy, but following the firing of Jerod Haase, the roster is already losing some younger players.

According to On3's Joe Tipton, four-star Kanaan Carlyle has decided to enter his name into the transfer portal. Carlyle is a former top-50 recruit who didn't make his debut until mid-December but immediately asserted himself as one of the best freshman scorers in the country with a breakout game against No. 4 Arizona that saw him score 28 points after hitting six threes.

The explosion was just his fourth collegiate career game which led to him being AP National Player of the Week, and there was a point in the year where he was the leading scorer for the team while also starting 16 of the 23 games he played in.

The Georgia native who played his final year of high school basketball in the new Overtime Elite league chose Stanford over programs like Alabama, Baylor, Kansas, and Florida among others. He was a part of a three-man freshman class that Haase brought in which was also headlined by five-star Andrej Stojakovic.

The decision comes after Haase and the Cardinal missed the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in his eight-year tenure, leading to his dismissal. Stanford is reportedly conducting a national search to find his replacement.

Six intriguing names to replace Jerod Haase at Stanford

It is possible for Carlyle to return to Stanford but until there is a new head coach named, it is unlikely.
