Stanford leading scorer Spencer Jones set to return
In what has been a not so ideal offseason for Stanford's basketball team they finally received some good news about next year's roster.
The Cardinal were searching near and far in the transfer portal to look for some scoring help to make up for the loss of senior Spencer Jones, but on Wednesday we learned that their leading scorer and second team All-Pac-12 forward will be returning for a fifth-year.
Jones was the team's main source of offense, averaging 14 points per game, while also leading the team in steals and blocks.
“You spend so much time at one place, four years, you think a little bit about leaving a legacy,” Jones told The San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday. “a bad taste in my mouth.”
While the Cardinal have come up short of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the last seven years under Jerod Haase, there is now room for optimism. With Brown's return, and the additions of five-star Andrej Stojakovic and four-star Kanaan Carlyle, the Cardinal may have a newly found energy in the locker room.
The Cardinal are likely still searching for more depth in the portal though being that they have already lost three players to the transfer portal, including Harrison Ingram, who was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2021-22 and was also second in scoring and rebounds this past season.
Getting Jones back could very well be something that we look back on that saved the job of Jerod Haase depending on how well this team does next year.
