Stanford has missed the NCAA Tournament in all seven years of Jerod Haase's tenure, and while Bernard Muir opted to give him another chance it is evident that a change in strategy will be occurring.

I recently compiled a list of players that the Cardinal should be targeting in the transfer portal, and Stanford appears to finally be putting some transfer portal work in. Obviously it is not easy to transfer into Stanford, and the Cardinal will never have a roster that is compiled of half a dozen transfers but with all of the experience they return a couple more pieces can easily be the difference they need.

I recently compiled a list of transfers that would be great fits for the Cardinal, and it appears that Haase and company will in fact be at least attempting to bolster the roster via the transfer portal. Let's take a look at three transfers they are known to have contacted thus far.

Paxson Wojcik, Brown (Guard)

Even with all of the influx of talent entering the portal, Brown transfer Paxson Wojcik is still ranked in the top-20 of all transfers. The shooting guard was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team, and is a sharp shooter from beyond the arc that can provide some length and experience. At 6-foot-5, the lefty averaged 14.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game for the Bears this past season, on 46% shooting from the field and 38% from the three point line. He shot a ton of threes this season, as 50% of his shot attempts came from beyond the arc.  Stanford has a couple players returning that already are in a three point shooter type of role, but a little more shooting and size won't hurt. Stanford is a team that heavily relies on the three, as they shot the fourth most threes in the conference this past season so adding a proven shooter should help.

In the initial push in the transfer portal it is evident which position that Stanford feels they need to address moving forward. All three of their contacts have been to guards, and Jackson Paveletzke is one of the most underrated players in the portal right now. The Wofford freshman started 33 games this season, averaging 15.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, while shooting 49.3% from the field and 39.3% from three point. His strong season also earned him the SoCon Freshman Of The Year Award. He has been garnering a ton of Power 5 interests as programs such as Arkansas, USC, Wisconsin, and Ohio State have all reached out to him. It is no surprise either as he ranked fifth among all D1 freshmen in both scoring and assists. Adding him gives Stanford another guard who can facilitate the offense, and also create for himself when needed.

Mike Mitchell Jr., Pepperdine (Guard)

The guard play was clearly a weakness for the Cardinal and has been for the past couple seasons. Even with four-star Kanaan Caryle coming in, it is evident that Haase wants more production from his floor generals. Mike Mitchell Jr. out of Pepperdine can provide just that, as in 31 games he averaged 11.4 points, 5.0 assists, 4.1 rebounds, while playing 33 minutes per game.  The San Jose native has heard from a plethora of programs, as schools like San Diego State, Arkansas, UNLV, and Arizona have all reached out. He has two more years of eligibility remaining, and could easily be the team's point guard on day one.
