Amazon and Pac-12 media rights partnership is 'very unlikely'
At this stage in the media rights game it appears that the Pac-12 has been taking their sweet time when it comes to finding a media rights deal.
After months of the Big 12 making attempts to poach Pac-12 schools like Colorado and jumping the conference in line to secure a media rights deal for themselves, the Pac-12 is going with the slow and steady approach. The conference has been in contact with everyone from ION and CW to ESPN and Apple.
One of the services that was expected to be a player was Amazon, who recently got into the sports streaming game with the Thursday night NFL games. However, unlike reports about ESPN being out on the Pac-12, it has become evident that Amazon may have pulled their hat out of the ring. New York Post sports media columnist and co-host of Marchand & Ourand Sports Media Podcast, Andrew Marchand deemed that a deal between the Pac-12 and Amazon is now "very unlikely".
There was a belief that the Pac-12 and Amazon would work out a Friday night game of the week that would be streamed on Prime, but now that Amazon is out, Apple remains as the lone confirmed streaming service to be involved with the conference.
