The best prospect since...

A phrase that is often overused and wildly misconstrued when talking about pro prospects in any sport. In basketball any tall skinny prospect that can shoot and dribble is the next Kevin Durant, but in football the phrase is used most when discussing quarterbacks. When there is a short gritty quarterback, they are automatically the next Drew Brees whether they are similar in actuality or not.

However, there is one phrase that is used lightly when discussing quarterbacks and that is "He's the best prospect since Andrew Luck". Before it was Luck, it was Peyton Manning. Two Colts quarterbacks who had just about every intangible a pro team could want, with Luck being more mobile and having a stronger arm than Manning. This past draft class which featured notable stars such as Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Anthony Richardson all drew comparisons to current or past quarterbacks, but it's is USC quarterback Caleb Williams who is already receiving the highest praise possible.

The former Oklahoma quarterback who followed Lincoln Riley to USC and went on to win the Heisman trophy while helping revive the struggling program, was recently deemed the best prospect since Luck. And it was done by someone who knows  just how special Luck truly was, because he recruited and was his coach. The nowformer Stanford head coach, David Shaw, joined the "Move the Sticks" podcast with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks, and he discussed just how good Williams is.

Shaw acknowledged that former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was at one point the best since Luck, but he now sees Williams as the best since his former quarterback. Shaw raved about his improvisational skills, even comparing him to Patrick Mahomes. He also went to say that he's the second best prospect of this generation behind Luck.

The praise may seem high, but Williams just has that "it'" factor. He can make any throw on the field, never turns the ball over, and also happens to be a great athlete on the side. This past season Williams threw for over 4,500 yards and 43 touchdowns to just five interceptions, while completing 66% of his passes.

In what will likely be his final college season, Williams is looking to lead the Trojans to a Pac-12 title in their final season in the conference, and more importantly a national title. Something that Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts were all unable to do while playing for Riley.

While USC fans are likely the only fan base that wants to see Williams, his ability as a quarterback is next level and is something that every football fan should watch even if it is while he dismantles your favorite team.
