Stanford didn't lose nearly as many key players to the transfer portal following the 2023 season as they did the year prior, but they did lose a couple of players who were starters.

One of them was safety Alaka'i Gilman who actually became a full-time starter this season. Gilman left Stanford as a graduate transfer, and took to social media on Tuesday evening to announce that he will be finishing his career at the former Pac-12 program, and new Big 12 school; Utah.

After totaling just four starters combined in his three seasons prior, Gilman started all nine of the games he played in this year for the Cardinal. He recorded 50 total tackles, three pass deflections, and also nabbed an interception.

His strong showing in 2023 also led to him being named Pac-12 Honorable Mention.

As for where Stanford will turn to replace him, they will return the rest of the starting secondary and will also have freshman Cam Richardson pushing for the starting role as one of the six early enrollees. Even though they haven't landed one yet this cycle, it is also a possibility that the Cardinal may look to the transfer portal to add some more depth and experience at safety.
