Former Stanford Star Toby Gerhart to be Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame
Before there was Christian McCaffrey, Tyler Gaffney, and Bryce Love it was running back Toby Gerhart who was dominating college football for the Stanford Cardinal.
The former Stanford Star was officially revealed as a member of the 2024 class for the College Football Hall of Fame, joining names like Justin Blackmon, Alex Smith, Warrick Dunn, and Larry Fitzgerald among others. His induction marks the 20th Stanford player to make it into the hall.
In his four seasons at Stanford, Gerhart accumulated 3,522 rushing yards, which at the time was the second most in program history. He powered in 44 touchdowns, and he still is the program's all-time leader in 100-yard rushing games with 20. The 2009 season was by far his best, as he was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, was Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year, a unanimous First Team All-American, and won the Archie Griffin Award, Jim Brown Trophy, Doak Walker Award, and the Tom Hansen Medal all in the same year.
He went on to be drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and played his final season in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
