Kirk Herbstreit Names Top Performers Of Week 7
College football fans were treated to a great weekend of college football in Week 7 with thrilling comebacks, back-and-forth battles, and crazy plays.
As he does every week, ESPN's college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit ranks his top-performing teams of the week. Rather than just shouting out the same top teams each and every week, he does ensure that there is a variety, and that teams who deserve props get their love.
Of the seven teams from Week 7, three of them resided in the Pac-12. So, with that being said let's take a look at who his top-performing teams of Week 7 are.
1. Washington
Result: Beat No. 7 Oregon 36-33
The Skinny: The Huskies successfully passed their biggest test of the season up to this point, and for the second straight season beat Oregon. Michael Penix Jr. had his Heisman moment by delivering a game-winning drive, as the Huskies look to return to the College Football Playoff.
2. Notre Dame
Result: Beat No. 10 USC 48-20
The Skinny: Notre Dame was fresh off of their second loss of the season to Louisville and were one more loss away from falling out of the rankings with No. 10 USC coming to town. They harassed Caleb Williams all game, forcing him to have his worst game of his career, and ended up blowing out USC.
3. Pitt
Result: Beat No. 14 Louisville 38-21
The Skinny: Coming into the game with just one win on the year, the Panthers hit the ground running against a hot Louisville team. They ended up beating them by 17 despite giving up 430 yards, but did force three turnovers, including a pick-six.
4. Iowa
Result: Beat Wisconsin 15-6
The Skinny: While they have yet to surpass 30 points this season against a Power 5 opponent, the Iowa Hawkeyes keep on winning. They managed to win a game despite their quarterback throwing for 37 yards, but did get a huge touchdown out of running back Leshon Williams who rushed for 174 yards and a score from 82 yards out.
5. Stanford
Result: Beat Colorado 46-43
The Skinny: Stanford found themselves trailing 29-0 at halftime, but went on to score 26 unanswered points en route to victory. Elic Ayomanor went from never having more than four catches in a game, to racking up 13 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns. The Cardinal got a much-needed victory, and have been the talk of the college football world.
6. North Carolina
Result: Beat No. 25 Miami 41-31
The Skinny: North Carolina continues to deliver despite being the most overlooked undefeated team in the country. They got a massive game from Kent State transfer Tez Walker who had six catches for 132 yards and three touchdowns, as they continue to climb the rankings.
7. Oregon State
Result: Beat No. 18 UCLA 36-24
The Skinny: The Beavers went up against one of the best defenses in the country and had their way. They put up over 400 yards on offense, while forcing the Bruins to turn the ball over three times en route to advancing to 6-1.
