NFL Insider Reveals This Offseason May Be Jim Harbaugh's Best Chance To Land an NFL Gig
The rumors had been circulating pretty much all season that the current Michigan, and former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, will be NFL-bound.
ESPN's Paul Finebaum went as far as to say that he'd leave for the NFL almost immediately after the national championship game. If it were to happen, it would make sense in the eyes of many. Michigan won the title, and the program has been dealing with scandals left and right that Harbaugh simply may not want to deal with anymore as he was suspended twice. He may also want another crack at the NFL after coming extremely close to winning a Super Bowl during his stint with the San Francisco 49ers. And, not to mention the Wolverines are losing a ton of key players, including quarterback JJ McCarthy.
While the rumors of Harbaugh going to the NFL have been circulating for the past couple of years, NFL insider Dan Wetzel revealed on The Dan Patrick Show, that this hiring cycle may be his best chance to land a prominent NFL job.
“You know, he’s 40-3 in the last three years and won a national title,” Wetzel said. “Jim Harbaugh has a tremendous amount of support, certainly amongst the fans and boosters, and the school. They want to keep him but I agree with you. I think there’s only so much you could do. Look if you want to go to the Chargers go to the Chargers.

Wetzel then discussed the quality of open jobs, and mentioned that more could be on the way with notable franchises such as the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles possibly looking to move on.
“This isn’t like, do you want to go to Carolina and lose and get fired in two years,” Wetzel said. “These are real opportunities … I kind of feel like if Jim Harbaugh can’t get a NFL job this year, it’s not going to happen. If you’re Michigan, kind of like, look okay, we’ll pay you. We’ll give you some stuff. We’ll protect you.
Wetzel did admit that Michigan wouldn't just let him walk away without a fight, but it has become clear that the NFL is on Harbauh's mind. He has reportedly already interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons role, as well as the Los Angeles Chargers.
While Michigan fans are hopeful, CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd has already identified candidates that would be the best replacements for Harbaugh should he move on. While Harbaugh didn't win a title at Stanford, Cardinal fans are well aware of how traumatic losing the head coach at what seems to be the apex of the program can be.
