Richard Sherman Responds To Whether Or Not He Will Be A 49ers Coach
Following what was the San Francisco 49ers third-straight loss after starting out 5-0, fans of the team were beside themselves.
One of the more common complaints was about the secondary that allowed Joe Burrow to go 28-of-32 for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-17 defeat. Burrow also connected with his former college teammate Ja'Marr Chase 10 times for 100 yards and a score.
The solution that one fan came up with was for former Stanford and NFL star Richard Sherman to take over as the coach of the secondary. Sherman is widely respected in the NFL, and when he was injured towards the back end of his career, often took on a coach-like role. However, when posed with the question of whether or not he'd take the job if offered, he shut down the notion immediately on the app formerly known as Twitter.
"The answers are in the building as Kyle said. I would do my best if asked but there is no world where they would ever or should ever pass over the incredible men that are in that building to hire someone with no coaching experience in the middle of the season. While I’m flattered by the support and belief from the faithful, I trust John and Kyle to find the solutions to the issues and get the defense back on track."
There are currently only seven teams in the NFL who have allowed more passing yards than San Francisco, and opposing quarterbacks are completing 68% of their passes against them. They did make a key acquisition at the deadline to help their defensive line out in the pass rush, which in effect makes life easier for the secondary.
As for Sherman, he appears to be enjoying life away from the football field as he is an analyst for Amazon's Thursday Night Football, and is also a panelist on FS1's Undisputed.
