The 2023 expectations for Stanford are not very high

Stanford's football program has seen much better days than the ones that they have experienced over the past few seasons. Just this past year they were only able to muster three wins in a season.

That, among other reasons are why David Shaw is no longer at the helm, and Troy Taylor is now in charge of turning things around. It won't be an easy thing to do by any means either, as the Cardinal return the least amount of production in the Power 5 and will be counting on inexperienced players at virtually every position.

While many people are high on what Taylor brings to the table and optimistic about where he can take the Cardinal, there are also minimal expectations for this upcoming season. Talent wise, Stanford lost a ton of key contributors to the transfer portal and to the NFL, and schedule wise the Pac-12 is likely the deepest it has been in years. Those two things do not mix well, and are likely why College Football News is projecting the Cardinal to win just two games in 2023.

Their prediction has the Cardinal winning their two early non-conference games against Hawaii in Week 1 and Sacramento State in Week 3, while having them losing from Week 4 on to compile a 2-10 record.

On the bright side for Stanford fans, the only way to go from this prediction is up. Taylor has made it clear that the Cardinal will be hoping to add players from the transfer portal when the window opens on Saturday. The new head coach has already added four transfers, and will likely have a handful of options in the portal of guys looking for more promising roles.

Stanford fans are well aware of the shape the program was left in, but it is likely still a disappointing sight.
