Stanford lands massive commitment from four-star DL Benedict Umeh
After what was a hugely successful month of June on the recruiting trail that saw the Cardinal land over 20 commitments, Troy Taylor and his staff are not done yet.
On Saturday it was revealed that they landed a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Benedict Umeh. The Canada native that is attending Avon Old Farms in Connecticut ranks as the highest ranked recruit in their 2024 class, ranking as the No. 81 player in the country according to 247Sports and No. 29 player in the country according to On3.
Umeh held nearly 40 offers and was heavily recruited by programs such as Penn State, Wisconsin, Duke, Auburn, and Michigan among others.
In an interview with On3 he revealed why he chose Stanford, citing his strong academic family being that his dad his lawyer and his mom a doctor. He also revealed that he was heavily considering committing to Penn State but his Stanford visit changed his mind.
“Coming back from Penn State, I really felt like I was going to go there,” Umeh told On3. “My mentality was that unless Stanford blows my mind, this is probably where I’m going to go. Going to Stanford, I remembered that it was my dream school and where I’ve wanted to go forever."
He also explained what he likes about the new staff and is confident that he and his fellow 2024 classmates can turn things around.
“The program right now fits what I want,” Umeh said. “I’m going to get a chance to get developed to the highest level and a chance to make an impact as soon as I get there and win games. With a new coaching staff and the way things are going, I believe that once I get there we’ll be on an upward trend.”
With the addition of Umeh, Stanford's class could jump from No. 14 to No. 12 in the country ahead of programs like Clemson and Tennessee. Troy Taylor's staff continues to make quite the impression on the recruiting trail.
