In this story:

Stanford pitcher Quinn Mathews was one of the steadiest hands in all of college baseball.

He had specularly clutch performances throughout the year such as his 156-pitch performance over Texas to keep Stanford's season alive in the Super Regional. His stellar showing in 2023 led to him being named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, and also led to him being drafted in the fourth round with pick No. 122 by the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was drafted last season in round 19 by the Tampa Bay Rays, but opted to return to Stanford for a final year. After primarily working out of the bullpen a year ago, he showed that he can be a starting pitcher as well.

He went 10-4 this season striking out 158 batters, while compiling a 3.75 ERA. He joins Tommy Troy and Alberto Rios as Cardinal that have been taken in the 2023 MLB Draft. He recently entered the transfer portal, but the belief is that it was just in case he didn't like where he was taken in the draft.
