Stanford was one of the bigger draft producers in 2023, as they had seven players called in rounds three through ten.

One of those players that heard his name called was pitcher Drew Dowd. The junior lefty was taken in the eighth round with the No. 243 pick by the Tampa Bay Rays.

He was one of the more effective arms for the Cardinal, accumulating a 9-3 record. He did have a 4.52 ERA over 32 appearances, which included getting the start three times. He was quite effective when it came to striking hitters out, as he struck out 88 hitters in 65 2/3 innings, and limited opponents to a .233 average against him.
