Stanford's Matt Scott Projected To Win Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Year
The Stanford Cardinal will be fielding a new pitching rotation in 2024, as well as practically a whole new lineup.
They had nine players from last year's team drafted, and also lost Braden Montgomery (Texas A&M) to the transfer portal. Of the nine players they had lost, four of them were pitchers. Outside of Ryan Bruno who was the closer, Quinn Matthews and Joey Dixon were in the rotation, and Drew Dowd saw some starts as well. In total, they lost 35 starts to the MLB, but they do return the big righty, in 6-foot-7 Matt Scott.
He made 24 appearances last season, with 12 starts for the Cardinal, and is expected to take a major step forward this season as the focal point of the rotation.
The step is expected to be so major in fact, that Scott is projected to win Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game. He was also named to their preseason All-Conference Team along with catcher Malcolm Moore.
Duke Transfer Kassius Thomas Named An Impact Transfer for Stanford
If Scott were to win Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, he'd be the fourth-straight Stanford pitcher to do so, following in the footsteps of Brendan Beck, Alex Williams, and Quinn Matthews. Scott and the Cardinal will take the field on February 16 as they open the season with a series against Cal State Fullerton.
