On Sunday, Stanford infielder Tommy Troy didn't have to wait very long to hear his name called during the MLB Draft.

The 2023 batting champion was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the No. 12 overall pick.

Troy is a big-time hitter that also has great athleticism that allows for him to play multiple positions on defense whether it's third, shortstop, second, or maybe even the outfield.

In an interview with MLB.com, Arizona's director of scouting expressed that they view Troy as a shortstop.

"We're really excited about the bat,” D-backs scouting director Ian Rebhan said. “He's had a lot of success in the Cape and the wood-bat leagues. We think he profiles really well as a hit and power defender up the middle player. He's super athletic, I think he's a plus runner and there's just a lot of conviction from both our scouting group and our analysts group on that bat.”

He finished this past season batting .394, hitting 17 home runs, and also stole 17 bases. Troy is the first Cardinal to be selected in the first round since Nico Hoerner in 2018.
