Syracuse Mets Win Second Straight Over RailRiders
Another day and another Syracuse Mets win as the team improves to 8-4.
For Syracuse the difference was Joey Lucchesi. Starting pitching has been up and down to start the year but Lucchesi was dealing and for 6 2/3 innings as well. He kept the pitch count low while also keeping the lineup off balance the whole way through. He made it that far into the contest and gave up just two hits and a walk on 6 strikeouts.
Ryan Weber wouldn’t find the same success for the RailRiders in his 5 innings of work. Syracuse would get to him a twice during his outing in the 3rd and 4th. Brett Baty did the most damage when he sent a 2-2 pitch out to left center. Ronny Mauricio added a solo shot in the 4th but after that the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre bullpen shut down the Mets.
Matt Krook, James Norwood and Nick Ramirez combined for 4 innings of work with just 1 hit allowed and 7 strikeouts. Bubby Rossman would get the Mets through the remainder of the 7th and the 8th inning with two hits allowed but Eric Orze would run into some trouble.
This one seemed like it had a bow wrapped on it until the bottom of the 9th. With one out Jesus Bastidas got things rolling with a double and Mickey Gasper got hit by a pitch. Orze battled for a strikeout against Rodolfo Duran but Michael Hermosillo got the best of him with a 3-run blast to make it 4-3. Orze would stop the comeback there and put Wilmer Difo down on 3 pitches.
After back to back wins against the RailRiders the Mets will have reigning International League Pitcher of the Week Jose Butto on the mound to battle with Tanner Tully. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
