It Will Take Time For Benny Williams to Get Back Fully Into Rotation
Syracuse forward Benny Williams returned from suspension and made his season debut in the Orange's Tuesday night win over Colgate. He played nine minutes, did not score on 0-4 shooting including 0-3 from beyond the arc. Williams added one rebound and one assist in nine minutes of action.
"Benny, he just came back with us," head coach Adrian Autry said following the win over Colgate. "It's going to take some time to get his conditioning and rhythm back. The greatest thing that I've seen was that he up and cheering for his teammates. He was into it. He was ready to go if I called him. So again, we look forward to working him back in with this team. Getting him back into the rotation. I thought he was great today and he did what he could do from being away for a couple of days."
Williams was suspended for violation of team rules prior to the second exhibition game. He missed that along with the first two games of the regular season. Last week, the program announced he had returned to all team activities. Williams was expected to be a key starter and leader for the Orange this season.
In his absence, Justin Taylor stepped into the starting lineup and played well, averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in the first two games while shooting 44% from three point range.
