Series History: Syracuse is 8-0 all-time against Northeastern. The series started in 1975 when Jim Calhoun was the head coach for the Huskies. The most recent matchup was in 2020, when the Orange pulled out a 62-56 victory. Joe Girard led all scorers with 21 points in that game. That was the only matchup decided by single digits.

Syracuse enters the 2022-23 season in a situation it has not been in under Jim Boeheim. Coming back from a losing season. The Orange finished the 2021-22 campaign below .500 for the first time in more than 50 years and has completely reshaped the roster in the offseason. While veterans Joe Girard, Jesse Edwards, Benny Williams and Symir Torrence are all back, Syracuse has seven newcomers in freshmen Judah Mintz, Quadir Copeland, Justin Taylor, Chris Bunch, Maliq Brown, Peter Carey and transfer Mounir Hima. Syracuse won both of the two exhibition games for the Orange, against Indiana (PA) and Southern New Hampshire, though neither victory was particularly impressive. The regular season started with a win over Lehigh and loss to Colgate.

Northeastern struggled last season, finishing with a 9-22 record. This year has not started out much better, losing its first three games. The Huskies are led by Jahmyl Telfort and Coleman Stucke. The two average 30 points combined and have made 15 combined threes in three games so far this season. Both are listed at 6-7 and Telfort also leads the team in rebounding.
