Jesse Edwards Commits to West Virginia
Former Syracuse center Jesse Edwards has made a decision on his transfer destination. Edwards committed to West Virginia during an official visit this weekend. He had previously trimmed his list to WVU, Gonzaga and Kansas.
The 6-11 center started every game for the Orange last season, averaging 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game. He also shot 59.2% from the floor and 72.9% from the free throw line.
“4 years ago, I got this amazing opportunity to play basketball in this cold snowy place called Syracuse that I only knew from sports highlights," Edwards said in a social media post after entering the portal. "Over the years I learned this place is about so much more than just snow and basketball. I grew as a player and a teammate but more importantly, as a person. To everyone on campus who helped me and has become a part of my Cuse family, thank you. The people that supported me when I didn’t play and when I did, thank you. All the coaches, staff and teammates I got to spend my time here with, thank you. Coach Boeheim, thank you for your confidence in me and the time we spent together. Thank you Grif and GMac for inspiring me to get better everyday. Coach Autry, thanks for your hard work, friendship and belief in me and the team. Cuse basketball is in great hands. Most of all thank you Cuse Nation for four unforgettable years. You fans and alumni are who make this great programme (sic) so special.
“Regarding my own future, after long and hard consideration I have decided that it is time for me to take on a new challenge and enter the transfer portal to explore my opportunities for my grad year.”
