Jesse Edwards Not Returning to Syracuse, Will Enter Transfer Portal
Jesse Edwards will not be back at Syracuse for the 2023-24 basketball season, and instead will enter the transfer portal, according to a source close to the situation. The news that Edwards would not return was first reported by Neil Adler of Inside The Loudhouse, while his entrance into the portal was first reported by Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com.
The 6-11 center started every game for the Orange last season, averaging 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in 32.6 minutes per game. He also shot 59.2% from the floor and 72.9% from the free throw line.
The loss of Edwards is certainly a blow to next year's roster, but even more so that he will not be turning pro and continuing his collegiate career somewhere else. Edwards came to Syracuse as a three star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class. He developed into one of the best bigs in the country.
All eyes now turn to Judah Mintz, who is going through the NBA Draft process while maintaining his collegiate eligibility. That means the door is still open for him to return to Syracuse for a second season. Mintz proved to live up to all of the hype he had coming out of high school, averaging 16.3 points, 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game as a true freshman.
The Orange is also still actively involved in the portal and could look to add another piece or two this offseason.
