In this story:

Syracuse guard JJ Starling was considered one of the best transfers in college basketball this offseason, leaving Notre Dame after their coaching change. Two national college basketball reporters, however, did not include Starling as one of their top impact transfers.

Andy Katz of NCAA.com listed his top 10 transfers as follows: Hunter Dickinson (Kansas), Ace Baldwin (Penn State), Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga), Max Abmas (Texas), Harrison Ingram (North Carolina), Caleb Love (Arizona), Grant Nelson (Alabama), LJ Cryer (Houston), Jahvon Quinerly (Memphis) and Steven Ashworth (Creighton).

In addition, CBS Sports/College Hoops Today's Jon Rothstein listed his top 30 impact transfers and left Starling off his list. His 30 include: Hunter Dickinson (Kansas), Harrison Ingram (North Carolina), Jahvon Quinerly (Alabama), Max Abmas (Texas), Jordan Dingle (St. John's), Chris Ledlum (St. John's), Cam Spencer (UConn), LJ Cryer (Houston), Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga), Arthur Kaluma (Kansas State), Tylor Perry (Kansas State), Tre Mitchell (Kentucky), Caleb Love (Arizona), Jaden Bradley (Arizona), Keshad Johnson (Arizona), Aaron Estrada (Alabama), Grant Nelson (Arizona), Ke'lel Ware (Indiana), Tyler Burton (Villanova), Hakim Hart (Villanova), TJ Bamba (Villanova), Matthew Cleveland (Miami), Kerr Kriisa (West Virginia), Jesse Edwards (West Virginia), Reese Dixon-Waters (San Diego State), Khalif Battle (Arkansas), Tramon Mark (Arkansas) Skyy Clark (Louisville), Dayvion McKnight (Xavier), Ray J Dennis (Baylor).

It is baffling that Starling was not included as one of the top transfers. Rothstein especially since he listed 30 transfers and seemed to include most of the high major program transfers but not Starling. Starling is a former five star recruit and McDonald's All-American who had a strong freshman campaign at Notre Dame. He was considered one of the best transfer portal players this offseason.

Mike's career started with his own free blog as a way to vent following sporting events. Shortly thereafter, a network of basketball sites called Coast 2 Coast Hoops asked him to run their Syracuse site. That site was called Nation of Orange, and Mike quickly established it as a go-to for Syracuse fans.  After running Nation of Orange for several months, a position with the Syracuse site on the Scout network became available. After one year as the recruiting expert with Cuse Nation, he was named the publisher. Mike oversaw the transition from Scout to 247Sports, and ran the site on that network for years.  Presented with the opportunity to join one of the biggest names in the sports journalism industry, Sports Illustrated, Mike jumped at the chance. All Syracuse was started from scratch by Mike and the Fan Nation team. It has now become a staple for Orange fans of various sports.  Mike has broken news on recruiting, Syracuse basketball and football team information and has established himself as the top recruiting inside in the market.
