Syracuse Blown Out by Florida State in ACC Tournament Quarterfinals
Syracuse women's basketball was dominated from start to finish in its ACC quarterfinals matchup against Florida State 78-65. The game was really not even that close as the Seminole lead was 20 or more for most of the second half.
The Orange was the only team to earn a double bye to lose its first game in Greensboro and it was the first time this season SU lost to a team in the second matchup. With the loss, Syracuse drops to 23-7 on the season and will enter the NCAA Tournament on a two game losing streak.
Both teams shot 40% from the floor, but Florida State really cooled off in the fourth. They dominated the boards though with a 50-34 advantage, including 24 offensive rebounds that led to 24 second chance points.
Florida State jumped on Syracuse right from the start, building a double digit lead. Syracuse, though, would battle back and trim the lead to two early in the second quarter. That is when the Seminoles would take control of the game. FSU dominated the rest of the quarter and took a 12 point lead into halftime.
The third quarter was not any better for the Orange, as the 'Noles pushed the lead beyond 20 points. Syracuse would never seriously threaten the rest of the way.
Dyaisha Fair led Syracuse with 23 points. The Orange was without Isabel Varejao who did not travel with the team due to an illness.
