Oronde Gadsden Suffers Injury, Emerges From Locker Room in Boot on Crutches
Syracuse football's All-American tight end Oronde Gadsden left in the early moments of the Orange's week two matchup with Western Michigan with an injury. Gadsden caught the ball on the second offensive play from scrimmage for SU. It was a quick slant that went for 10 yards, but Gadsden stayed down in obvious pain grabbing at his ankle immediately after the play. He limped off the field and into the locker room.
About half the quarter went by before Gadsden came out of the locker room and back onto the Syracuse sidelines. He emerged with a walking boot on his right foot and using crutches to help him walk. The last thing Orange fans wanted to see.
That injury was the culmination of a horrible first minute of action against the Broncos. On Western Michigan's second play, Jalen Buckley ran 75 yards for a quick score to take an early 7-0 lead. Moments later came Gadsden's injury.
Syracuse did bounce back, however, scoring 17 straight points to take a double digit lead midway through the first quarter.
Gadsden was a Preseason All American and Preseason All ACC. He is considered Syracuse's best receiving weapon and has tremendous chemistry with quarterback Garrett Shrader. Losing him for any length of time will be a challenge to overcome.
